To be referred to as a “Good Jake” is the highest form of commendation among Boston area firefighters, signifying exceptional skill, bravery, and reliability. The term likely stems from “J-Key,” derived from the telegraph keys utilized in the first street-corner fire alarm box system, pioneered in Boston. World War One veterans-turned-firefighters, accustomed to military-issue telegraph keys, possibly coined the term “J-Keys,” which eventually morphed into “Jake.” This slang, originally denoting a firefighter adept at Morse code communication under pressure, gradually became a commonly used term for firefighters in general.

"I absolutely love the hats and I will continue purchasing them. But I ordered three in my last order and they came stuffed in one box. It left impression rings in two of the hats. If individual shipping is out of the question, and I would completely understand if it was. Perhaps slight thick "Boston Scally" tissue paper, placed between each hat. A+ beautiful hats. Love all four of mine that I've gotten so far. Tha would turn this four star review, into a five-star review for me."
